Mr. Hossain has a proven track-record of working in micro, small and medium financial services for over a decade. His core skills involve financial product and process re-engineering with disruptive technologies. Previously, he served as the Chief Operations Officer at ASA India. He has been a part of numerous training programmes across Asia, Africa and Europe, having served as a Joint Director for ASA International in Bangladesh, Senior General Manager for SAJIDA Foundation, Head of Microfinance for BRAC Tanzania Finance Ltd and Board Member for the Tanzania Association of Microfinance Institutions. He has an MBA in Finance, a Master of Public Affairs in Governance & Public Policy from the University of Dhaka and an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, with distinction. He is also an alumni of Boulder Institute of Microfinance.

Mr. Mohammad Ahsan Habib obtained his MBA (Major in Human Resources Management) from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. As Deputy Managing Director of ASA Limited in Kenya, he has been closely associated with the implementation and supervision of ASA’s micro-finance program since 2019. Before joining ASA Limited, he worked in ASA Microfinance Rwanda as Deputy Managing Director from 2016 to 2019. In 2005, before joining ASA Kenya, he was at ASA Bangladesh (a national non-government micro-finance institution in Bangladesh) as District Officer and held several positions such as District Manager, Treasury officer, Zonal Manager, Program Manager and Jr. Assistant Director. From September 2007 to 2010 he was employed in Nigeria by ASA International Holding to provide technical assistance for planning, implementing and managing micro lending projects through NGOs.

Mr. Okoth boasts of over 13 years of experience in the Microfinance Sector. Currently the Head of Accounts & Finance at ASA International Kenya Limited, Stephen left Kenya Women Microfinance Bank Ltd in 2018 where he rose through the ranks from Accounts Clerk to Assistant Finance Manager. He has experience in financial planning and performance management, reporting, treasury and risk management, funding, audit and compliance. Stephen is a bachelor of economics holder from Kenyatta University. He is also a CPA (K) and he is registered with ICPAK. He also holds Certified Investment & Financial Analyst (CIFA) certification in addition to a diploma in project planning and management from Moi University.

Mr. Kinyanjui is the current Manager HR and Administration at ASA International Kenya Limited. He has over 12 years’ experience in HR Management supervising micro finance teams in various leading organizations. He has developed HR plans, conducted talent recruitment, reward and succession management, Project Management; Training and Group Facilitation; Market Research, Proposal and Products Development; Business Development; Marketing and Events Management; Human Resource and Partnerships Management in Banking and Renewable energy sectors in Kenya and East Africa. Mr. Kinyanjui holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management-Human Resource Management from Egerton University-Kenya, and he is a Certified Public Secretaries (CPS-K) holder 2007 from Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB). He is a Member of the Institute of Human Resource Management.

Mr. Orina is a Bachelor of Commerce degree holder-Finance Option from Kisii University. He has also attained Certified Public Accountant (CPA – Part 1). He has over five years working experience in ASA International Kenya Limited having joined the company in 2014. He has risen through the ranks from a Loan Officer to Branch Manager and he currently serves as the Head of Risk and Fraud and Misappropriations Prevention Unit. He has ensured a safe operations environment preventing fraud occurrences for the last three years.

IT Manager

Mr. Kibet has served as the IT Manager since 2016. Mr. Edwin holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Eldoret and is currently pursuing MBA in Management Information System from Kenyatta University. Mr. Edwin has over 6 years’ experience and a wealth of knowledge in Information Technology. He has implemented and facilitated implementation and deployment of Core Microfinance Banking Systems, Data Center, and mobile Banking among others. He is a Microsoft Certified Solution Associate, Cisco Certified Network Associate and ITIL Certified among other trainings.

Dirk Brouwer

Dirk Brouwer co-founded ASA International in 2007 and has since served as the company’s Executive Director. He is also the Managing Director of Catalyst Microfinance Investors, which he co-founded in 2006. With over 20 years of experience in investment banking, and 11 in microfinance, he has held several senior and supervisory positions, having acted as a board member of CMI and Founder and Managing Director of Sequoia which he founded in 2002. Prior to this, he spent 14 years working at Merrill Lynch and PaineWebber.

Aminur Rashid is currently the Executive Director of ASA International. Since joining in 2011, he has held the positions of Chief Coordinating Officer and Director. Prior to this, Aminur was a Director of ASA Bangladesh from 1992, closely associated with the company’s micro-finance program. Before joining ASA, Aminur worked at Grameen Bank, a fully regulated specialized bank for microfinance. With over 28 years of experience in microfinance, he has held multiple senior industry positions, and worked in extremely varied developmental contexts including Tajikistan, India, Mexico, and Nigeria.

Mr. Hussain is the Director of Investment and Treasury at ASA International. With a Master’s degree from the University of Dhaka and a Diploma in Project Management from Denmark, Mr. Hussain has served in the capacity of a consultant for various MFIs across countries like Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, the Philippines, Yemen, Cambodia, and Indonesia. Joining ASA-Bangladesh in 1984, he took over as Director of Finance and MIS in 1992, gathering vast experience in product development and lending methodology in the microfinance sector as well as financial management, accounting system design, business planning, financial forecasting, and performance analysis. Mr. Hussain is also in charge of ASA NGO Partnership Build-Up Program, where small NGOs/MFIs receive financial and technical support form ASA.

Md. Nurul Islam Chowdhury Mafique

Md. Nurul Islam Chowdhury Mafique

Md. Nurul Islam Chowdhury Mafique obtained his post-graduate degree in Management from National University of Bangladesh in 1997. He joined ASA International in 1994 and since then has been closely associated with the implementation of ASA’s microfinance program and impact assessment team. As an Assistant Program Director , Mr. Mafique’s major job responsibilities included policy formulation and decision-making as well as conducting intensive field visits to supervise and follow up on project activities, evaluate field level staff performance, participate in staff recruitment processes, organize and conduct various staff development training sessions, and innovate new ideas/initiatives to manage delinquencies. From 2005 to 2006, Mr. Mafique provided consultancy services to the Center for Community Transformation in the Philippines and the Cambodia Health Committee in Cambodia, to strengthen the Micro-Service Delivery System, Human Resources Management System, financial control system and accounting & record keeping system of the ASA Model. He is also currently Managing Director of ASA Uganda.

Mr. Muhammad Shah Newaj obtained his Post-Graduate degree in International Human Resource Management from Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. He also achieved a Diploma in Sales & Marketing Management from the London Centre of Marketing, UK and Masters in Social Work from Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, Bangladesh. Before joining ASA International he worked as an Operations Officer at City Bank Limited for about two years. He joined ASA Bangladesh in 2011 and served as a Jr. Deputy Director. Currently, he is the managing Director of ASA Microfinance Tanzania Limited.
