I worked diligently, giving my best every day, and soon my dedication caught the attention of my supervisors. They saw potential in me, and on September 19, 2016, I received a life-changing letter—I had been offered an official position as a Junior Loan Officer.
Mary Mariga: A Journey of Perseverance and Growth
To every young girl who feels uncertain about her future, wondering if life holds meaning or opportunities—let my story be proof that determination, hard work, and faith in oneself can open doors you never imagined.
I joined ASA Kenya on January 11, 2016, as a casual laborer at the Ruai branch, a satellite office near my home. At the time, I had no formal position, just a strong work ethic and the hope that my efforts would lead to something greater.
That moment was a turning point, not just for me but for my family. My parents, who had sacrificed so much to give me a chance at a better future, were overjoyed. Their hard work had not been in vain. And for me, this was just the beginning.
Within a year, my efforts were rewarded with a promotion to Loan Officer. Another year of commitment and excellence led to my next promotion—this time, as an Assistant Branch Manager (ABM), where I was transferred to Ruaka Branch. My journey didn’t stop there. With continued dedication, I earned another promotion, becoming Branch Manager at Gatundu Branch.
With each step forward, I realized something powerful: ASA Kenya truly recognizes and rewards commitment. More importantly, I had found my purpose—serving low-income female entrepreneurs, empowering them to build better lives for themselves and their families.
For the past nine years, I have proudly worked towards this mission, knowing that every loan processed and every woman empowered brings positive change to our communities.
Beyond my career growth, ASA Kenya has been a pillar of support for my family. When I joined, my eldest daughter was just starting high school, and I was worried about school fees. But through this job, I was able to educate her all the way to university, where she excelled. And in a full-circle moment, after graduation, I recommended her to ASA Kenya’s hiring team—she is now working as a Loan Officer in another branch, earning her own income and sharing in our mission of uplifting underprivileged communities
ASA Kenya has given me a platform to grow, learn, and discover new opportunities. I am grateful for the strong team spirit within the company, which motivates me to keep pushing forward. To every young girl out there questioning her path—never give up. Keep working hard, believe in yourself, and embrace the opportunities that come your way. Your story is still being written, and greatness awaits you.
I look forward to continuing this journey of impact and growth, knowing that the best is yet to come!
